If you’re ever feeling the blues, you can count on Manchester duo Shy Luv to cheer you up. Their music is always an instantly feel-good listening experience, and newest single ‘Like A River’ is no exception. Opening with an unmissable jolt of synthesised bass, the track quickly sidesteps into upbeat funk and easy-going pop. Speaking about ‘Like A River’, Shy Luv share their intentions: “The chords and beat are super happy – we wanted to write this tune based around happiness and the sort of happiness you feel when you’re with someone you love and that feeling running through you. But we wanted it to be quite tongue in cheek, almost overly cute so that’s where the verses came from.” Of course, there’s a noticeable difference with this track, it’s the first time the duo have featured another artist. As they say, “We’d just heard the Bakar tune and thought it’d be wicked to get some of his mad energy on a track too,” and it’s an energy you can feel throughout. ‘Like A River’ is the first taste of Shy Luv’s next EP, Lungs, set for release next month. - HT
